Good old pumpkin pie

History and Origin of Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie, known as "pastel de calabaza" in Spanish, is a very popular traditional dessert in the United States and Canada, especially during fall celebrations like Thanksgiving. Its origin dates back to the American colonies in the 17th century, where the first settlers adapted European recipes using native ingredients like pumpkin.

In Latin America, although it is not a typical dessert in all regions, pumpkin is used in various sweet and savory preparations. For example, in Mexico and Central America, they often make pumpkin-based sweets with sugar and cinnamon, though not exactly a pumpkin pie. In some countries, such as Argentina and Uruguay, this recipe is simply known as "tarta de calabaza".

This dessert has become popular internationally and can be found under different names, but the essence is always the same: a pastry crust with a creamy, spiced pumpkin filling that evokes the flavor and aroma of autumn.
