History and Origin of French Fries
French fries, known worldwide as "French fries" or simply "fries," have a history dating back to the 17th century in Europe. Their origin is said to be attributed to Belgium, where the inhabitants of the Wallonia region used to fry small fish during the winter, and when the river froze, they would cut potatoes in a similar shape and fry them. This delicious dish quickly became popular and spread to other countries.
In Latin America, French fries have different names depending on the country. In Mexico, they are often called "papas a la francesa," while in Argentina and Chile they are known as "papas fritas" or simply "fritas." In Peru, they are called "papas a la inglesa." Regardless of the name, these delicious golden strips are a classic side dish for many meals and one of the favorite snacks around the planet.
