How to Make Classic Apple Pie

Double-Crust Pie Dough-------------

Combine the flour, shortening, and salt with a pastry blender or fork until pea-sized balls form.

Add ice water by the tablespoon and mix until the bowl begins to clean as you work the dough.

It is then ready to roll out.

Preheat the oven to 450°F.

Combine the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon zest.

Line the pie dish with the unbaked crust, trim the dough, and crimp the edge of the dish.

Fill the crust with the apple mixture and place small pieces of softened butter on top.

Brush the edge of the crust with water and place the top crust over the pie, crimping it to the base.
