Caramel pie

Origin and history of Caramel Pie

Caramel pie is a traditional dessert that has delighted palates in various regions of Latin America. Its history dates back to European influence, especially French and Spanish, where tarts and pies were made with local ingredients and adaptations from the colonial era. In Mexico, this dessert is very popular and has become an essential element in celebrations and family gatherings.

In other Latin American countries, caramel pie may have different names or variations; for example, in Argentina and Chile it is commonly known as "dulce de leche tart," due to the substitution of caramel with this typical sweet. In Colombia and Venezuela, it is also consumed in similar versions, always highlighting the sweet and smooth flavor of the characteristic caramel.

This dessert combines smooth textures with a touch of intense sweetness, thanks to the mixture of homemade caramel and the fluffy meringue that covers it, offering a highly appreciated gastronomic experience in the region.
