Bird seed bar

History and Origin of the Bird Seed Bar

The bird seed bar is a traditional recipe used to feed birds in homes and gardens. Its origin dates back to common practices in various cultures in Latin America and other regions where bird watching is a popular activity. In countries like Mexico and Colombia, this type of mixture is prepared with typical regional ingredients to attract and nourish local birds.

In other Latin American countries, this preparation may have various names, such as "bird seed blocks" or simply "bird seed mix." However, the purpose is the same: to create a nutritious and safe source that facilitates the feeding of wild birds near homes.

Furthermore, this recipe promotes the preservation of local wildlife and has become a tradition for many people who enjoy nature and wish to contribute to its care from home.

How to prepare a bird seed bar

Heat the first four ingredients, one after the other in a large skillet, until they are toasted and lightly golden.

Mix with raisins in a large bowl.

Heat the butter, honey, and brown sugar to the soft-ball stage, then pour over the mixture in the bowl.

Mix well.

Press into the mold so it is 2 cm thick.

When almost cool, cut into bars.
