Origin and history of berry smoothies
Berry smoothies have a very popular and widespread origin in multiple regions of the world due to the availability of fresh and frozen fruits, especially in countries with temperate and cold climates. In Latin America, although natural juices and various blended drinks are traditionally consumed, the incorporation of berries such as strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries has been gaining popularity due to their nutritional benefits and refreshing taste.
This type of smoothie goes by different names depending on the country: in Mexico, they are usually simply called "licuados de frutas" (fruit shakes), while in countries like Argentina, Chile, and Colombia, they are commonly known as "batidos" or "smoothies". In some places, the term "smoothie" has been adopted directly from English due to international culinary influence. They are ideal for healthy breakfasts and snacks and can be prepared with either fresh or frozen fruits to always maintain a creamy and cold texture.
