Sausage, cheese, and egg casserole

Sausage, cheese, and egg casserole is a traditional dish that has won over many households for its comforting flavor and simplicity. Originating from American cuisine, this dish has been adapted and popularized in different Latin American countries, where it is also known as "breakfast pie" or "savory pudding." Its name may vary, but the essence is the same: a delicious and nutritious mixture that combines proteins, dairy, and bread in a single baked dish.

This type of recipe was born as a practical way to use basic ingredients and create a hearty breakfast or brunch that could be prepared in advance. In countries like Mexico, Colombia, and Chile, it is common to find variations with local ingredients, but the classic combination of sausage, cheese, and egg remains the favorite for starting the day with energy.

How to Make Sausage, Cheese, and Egg Casserole

Ingredients: Seasoned croutons, sharp cheddar cheese, ground sausage, eggs, milk, dry mustard, salt, pepper, and cream of mushroom soup.

Place the croutons at the bottom of a greased casserole dish and cover with 1 1/2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese.

Brown and drain the ground sausage and place it on top of the cheese.

Beat the eggs with milk and the seasonings: dry mustard, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the sausage and cheese.

Refrigerate overnight so the flavors meld well and the texture sets.

The next day, dilute the cream of mushroom soup with 1/2 cup of milk.

Pour this mixture over the casserole and sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese on top.

Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 1 1/2 hours or until fully set and golden brown.
