Piña colada is a tropical cocktail that originated in Puerto Rico during the 1950s. It is said to have been created to capture the flavors of the Caribbean, combining the sweetness of pineapple with the smoothness of coconut cream and the alcoholic touch of rum. In other Latin American countries, this cocktail may have similar names or is simply called "piña colada," although the presentations and minor ingredients vary by region. For example, it is very popular in Mexico and Venezuela and is prepared in almost the same way, while in some parts of Central America it is also known as "batido de piña con coco" or simply "piña y coco." This cocktail has become a symbol of tropical culture, ideal for summer and outdoor celebrations.
