Penne alla vodka is a classic Italian recipe that combines the freshness of tomatoes with the smoothness of cream and a characteristic touch of vodka that enhances the flavors. Its origin dates back to the 1980s in Italy, specifically in Rome, where it became popular as an elegant and simple dish at the same time. In Latin America, it can be found under similar variations, and the Italian influence means it is sometimes simply recognized as "pink sauce pasta" or "creamy pasta with vodka." In countries like Mexico, Argentina, and Chile, this recipe has gained great acceptance on the menus of restaurants specializing in Italian cuisine, adapting to the local palate while maintaining the Italian essence.
The fresh ingredients, the creamy texture, and the slightly spicy touch of the pepper-infused vodka make this dish an ideal option for special occasions or to enjoy at home with family and friends. Furthermore, the type of pasta used is penne, large, straight tubes cut diagonally that help trap the sauce better, ensuring a delicious and complete experience.
