Old-fashioned chocolate cake

Old-fashioned chocolate cake is a traditional recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation. Its origin dates back to a time when natural ingredients and simple methods prevailed in home baking. In Latin America, this type of cake is known simply as "chocolate cake" or "chocolate torta," although in some countries like Mexico or Argentina it is given a particular touch that makes its flavor unique. The recipe represents a balance between sweet and bitter, with a moist and spongy texture that recalls the home cooking of yesteryear.

In different countries of the region, this cake may have different names, but the essence remains. For example, in Colombia it is usually called "chocolate queque," in Chile "chocolate torta," and in Venezuela "chocolate bizcocho." Furthermore, the way of preparing the glaze or topping varies, but the finish always aims to highlight the intense flavor of chocolate, maintaining that nostalgic and homemade feeling. Without a doubt, old-fashioned chocolate cake is a testament to how classics never go out of style.

How to prepare Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake

Cream the oil, sugar, and cocoa.

Add the eggs.

Add the flour mixture alternating with the buttermilk.

Add the baking soda and salt.

Add the vanilla to the hot water and incorporate the water into the batter.

Bake in a 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until done.

Traditional chocolate cake frosting: bring the margarine, cocoa, and whole milk to a boil.

Remove from heat and add the powdered sugar and vanilla.

Mix until a smooth, spreadable consistency is achieved.

This is my favorite chocolate cake.
