Dutch-style cucumber salad

Dutch-style cucumber salad is a refreshing and simple preparation that has its roots in European cuisine, specifically in the Netherlands. This dish has been adopted and adapted in several Latin American countries where it is common to find it under different names and variations. In Mexico and Central America, for example, it is simply known as "cucumber salad in vinegar" or "sweet pickled cucumbers." In the Southern Cone, some versions include additional ingredients like dill or spicy chili. This salad combines the freshness of the cucumber with the acidic and sweet touch of vinegar and sugar, making it ideal to accompany heavy meals or as a light dish during hot days.

How to Prepare Dutch-Style Cucumber Salad

Ingredients: Cucumbers, white vinegar, sugar, onion.

Steps:

Wash and peel the cucumbers.

Slice the cucumbers and onions as thinly as possible.

Place them in a bowl and cover with vinegar.

Add 3 to 5 heaping tablespoons of sugar, mix well.

Chill and serve.

This is best if left covered in the refrigerator overnight.

In fact, if left to rest for 2 or 3 days in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator, turning the jar upside down one day and then back to its normal position the next day, the flavor intensifies and the cucumbers become crispier and more delicious.
