Caribbean coffee

Caribbean coffee is a traditional beverage that originated in the coastal regions of the Caribbean, where the abundance of coconut and coffee cultivation converged to create this delicious blend. Known in several Latin American countries, this beverage is also called "Café con coco" in Colombia and "Café de coco" in Puerto Rico. Its popularity is due to the unique combination of the aroma and flavor of dark coffee with the sweetness and creaminess of coconut, which makes it a different and comforting option for coffee lovers.

This recipe reflects the cultural influence of the Caribbean islands, where fresh and natural ingredients are the main characters. Caribbean coffee is ideal for sharing at family gatherings or to enjoy at any time of the day, evoking the tropical flavors that characterize this region.

How to Make Caribbean Coffee

Make two holes in the coconut using a hammer and a nail.

Drain the liquid from the coconut into a saucepan.

Bake the whole coconut at 150 °C for thirty minutes to loosen the coconut pulp from the hard shell.

Grate the fresh coconut.

Place the saucepan over low heat and mix the grated coconut, the coconut liquid, and the 2% skim milk.

Heat until creamy.

Strain, reserving the grated coconut.

Brown the grated coconut under the broiler or in a skillet on the stove.

In warmed cups, mix the hot coconut milk with equal amounts of dark roast Gevalia coffee.

Sweeten with sugar to taste.

Sprinkle with toasted coconut.

This recipe is enough for 8 servings.
